WORKERS MEMORIAL DAY PROTEST MARCH DEMANDING GOVERNMENT BAN ASBESTOS NOW AND STRENGTHEN SAFETY LAWS REMEMBER THE DEAD & FIGHT FOR THE LIVING
Construction Safety Campaign, MSF London Region, Hazards Campaign and others will be holding a protest march from MSF, 50 Southwark St to the government's Health & Safety Executive's (HSE) headquarters at Southwark Bridge. Leaving MSF at 10.20am.
When they arrive they will present a wreath in memory of those killed by asbestos and call for the government to urgently deliver on their promise to ban all asbestos imports to the UK and for stronger safety laws and enforcement - NOW.
The government has back slid on it's promise to ban all asbestos imports. A ban now looks unlikely before 2,000 which is why the CSC and others are calling for urgent action now.
Further to this the government is consulting on UK workplace asbestos safety laws and if the proposals are adopted they will allow workers to continue to be exposed to deadly asbestos dust.
The CSC protest will also focus on the many cases of construction workers killed in site accidents in London in recent weeks.
April 28th is Workers Memorial Day, a day to remember workers around the world who have been killed, disabled, injured or made unwell by their work. It highlights the preventable nature of the greater majority of workplace accidents and ill health, promoting campaigns and union organisation in the fight for improvements in workplace safety.
Our slogan for the day is "Remember the dead - fight for the living". Many events are currently being organised around the country and around the world.
